Late January brought 4 days of continuous snowfall. 3 meters of neck-deep Powder blanketed the Myoko area. It was a meter pow day everyday!

The past week hit the sidecountry to some 6 resort areas and has it all to ourselves.If you want deep powder Myoko is the place to be right now...the place just keeps on Myokoing!

Over a meter of Pow fell this week in snowstorms. No crowds and fresh lines were accessed until late in the day off multiple resort areas. Myoko is deep right now.

Now you have no excuse to come and enjoy the deep Powder in Japan!

While some parts of the globe are struggling for decent snow cover, Japan is fortunately having a great start to the season. Powder Recon has recorded a base in the Myoko Kogen area that is 3m deep (10ft).

The heart of Japan has lived up to it's reputation as having some of the highest snowfalls around. 50-60cm hasn't been uncommon overnight the past few weeks. Powder days galore!

The Powder Recon Japan team has been exploiting some of the best terrain accessed off multiple resort areas for their guests. Trees, steeper drops, bowls, small or large hikes, groomers, mellow powder runs, neck-deep powder, parks or whatever you are looking for...it is all there for you too. Seriously, Japan is really starting to open up to the foreign ski market, so we want to stick to our roots and keep it fresh, neck-deep, with no crowds and a traditional feel. So keep in touch with us to explore Japan with local knowledge.

As usual we are based in Myoko for the season. With the freeze level now well below the town, we expect the snow base to build rapidly, keeping its light fluffy top from new fresh falls almost daily. Remember, Myoko has some of the highest snowfalls in Japan and is know for some of the best pillow and tree lines!

NEW ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS

Everyone wants something different out of a ski holiday, and that's why we are always looking to add new and varied options for your stay. We still offer our old favourites like Seventh Door and Korakuso, but we are also proud to add a few classic ryokan choices for next season.

Gen Ryokan: A real Japanese experience, Gen is a luxury ryokan located in a quiet snow-filled birch forest. It is in a secluded location approximately 5 minutes walk from the lifts at the Ikenotaira ski area, and is a real step up in quality from the other hotels in the area. The rooms are very stylish, and many of them offer private balcony onsens. What could be better than soaking in your very own onsen after a tough day on the slopes? Gen also has a high class restaurant offering traditional multi course Japanese food.

As it is located some distance from the Akakura village, Gen is the perfect option for those after a private getaway with a taste of traditional Japanese luxury. For more information or photos, click through to our Gen webpage link.

Okayama Ryokan: Okayama is a traditional Japanese option, and has been owned and run by the Okayama family for over 50 years. The rooms are traditional and spacious, and this is a very popular option with Japanese guests visiting the area. The hotel also serves some of the best Japanese food in Myoko, with wonderful meals prepared by the in-house chef.

The rooms do not offer ensuite facilities and showering is the onsen, as is typical for traditional Japanese guesthouses. We love Okayama, and think it will suit people who want to have the full cultural experience. The owners are incredibly friendly, and always make the effort to welcome you after a day of skiing.
